Stuck? Frustrated? Confused? Need someone to help you with your problems building your model train kit? One of the solutions is to become a reader of a model rail magazine. Each week or month new articles, tips, photos and ideas are released to you offering you the latest in support and help.

So I have put together a list of 10 great reasons why you absolutely should subscribe to a model rail magazine.

1) Receive e-mail newsletter. Many of these magazines have a frequently asked questions area or have links to videos, books and other information sources that will help you untangle your train labyrinth!

2) Participate in reader forums. Some of the off-line magazines also have an on-line counterpart with links to forums, help lines, articles and tutorials where you can swap ideas with other people. I have found our model train community to be a loving and passionate arena where our members have no problem sharing ideas and tips. Many have struggled as you do and have found ways to solve their problems from other helpful people.

3) Access their live railroading web cams. Some of these people contribute extensively to writing articles and summaries in a model rail magazine and are more than happy to receive questions from you.

4) Access to product news. Some of these magazines have been around for over 50 years. Can you imagine the pool of knowledge they have amassed in that time. You can guarantee they know the answer to your questions and so the price involved in buying a magazine on a regular basis is well worth it.

5) A model rail magazine can link you internationally as they have a database that covers the globe, so you can be happy in the knowledge that you have a huge pool of people their to help you.

6) Lots of these model rail magazines have subscriber special extras as an incentive to keep you involved along with regular meet ups and clubs for virtually every type of model train you can think of.

7) Hear other reader comments. Many readers will submit replies, and articles to help the community.

Model rail magazines are not expensive and can be delivered each release directly to your door or via email, as you wish. It cannot be simpler, you do not even have to go out shopping to buy one anymore.

8) Search-able track plans. Many of the magazines have an online area where you can not only search, but download track plans and other information.

9) Access to archives. Most magazines have back issues that can be bought also with specific areas for videos and book recommendations.

10) Involvement. This can be one of the greatest ways to get help. Be involved in the magazine and others will flock around you to swap stories and gossip making you part of a real community. Of course, others can only access you to the extent that you allow them to so it is safe and problem free.

There is still something much nicer about lying on the floor or draped over the sofa physically reading the magazine in your hands, than sat at a desk with your laptop reading an online version.

A laptop can be heavy to carry around whilst a magazine can easily be rolled up or slipped into your bag as you go around town – and with a magazine you never need to charge your battery!

I don’t know about you but I always prefer a magazine for good reading than on a computer and this is why I recommend that if you are serious about getting more knowledge about your trains you need a good model rail magazine.
