Whats the difference between O and O27 scale model trains?
One of those burning questions that dog me throughout lifes journey.
O27 is the smaller scale, like each piece is about 3″ to 4 ” long and 1/2″ to 3/4″ tall.
O Scale Model Trains

So you’re not sure what kind of train to start with? Well one thing to consider when making your choice are the model trains o scale layouts. The bigger model you want to run, the bigger layout you will need. This is all dependent on the gauge, which is the distance between the two sides of the train.
Next you need to figure out where you want to put your layout. Will it be indoors or outdoors? How many square feet of space do you have available to you? Once you have figured out those basics, you can get down to the nitty gritty of selecting the perfect model trains o scale layout.
There are a couple ways to go about this. First you could design and build a layout yourself. Some people like working with their hands and like creating something from scratch. This method gives you complete control over the design as well as gives you a great sense of accomplishment. If you are a parent this is a great way to bond with your children and help them gain some confidence.
If you’re like me and you lack the creative bone, then you can hire a more experienced hobbyist to design and build an o scale train layout for you. Of course this could increase your cost a little but it may be worth it to save you some time that can be used to enjoy your new hobby. If you choose to hire a professional to build your layout make sure you ask them for pictures showing the work they’ve done in the past. A picture can speak a thousand words, and you want to make sure the quality is top notch.
It’s important to note that when hiring someone to make a layout for you, that it should come pre-wired, trimmed, and set up ready to go.
Model train layouts have come a long way from the days of an oval shaped track, where the train goes round and round and round. A good layout can include various different accessories such as, trees, people, cars, planes, boats and even a hot air balloon. Anything your imagination can conceive, you can put into a trains o scale layout.
